RiverBridge Art of Beaver County began with an idea that people love their pets, treasure particular memorable photos and are intrigued by the possibility that these can be transformed into larger works of art to be displayed in an engaging way above a fireplace, or on that confounding blank wall, or in a personal space of quiet reflection.
As a Plastics & Graphics Arts student from the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle, I studied fine art painting with acrylic paint and canvas.
When technology advanced, I discovered digital drawing and joined Alex Lindsay’s Pixelcorps where I was a member for 4 years learning Photoshop, new drawing techniques and equipment. More like ... as a paint-n-pencil purist, I resisted digital drawing until someone asked me if I still owned a rotary phone, too.
From there I started digitally enhancing personal photos. You know … the ones with red eyes, or a washed out face, or a slanted horizon, or a questionable background like the classmate my soulmate hadn’t seen in years with a most engaging smile …and a No Parking Sign on top of his head.
After moving to a new home, I needed a large art piece for a blank wall but couldn’t find anything I liked. So I contacted Canvas on Demand online and emailed a digital photo – one of my personal favorites. We had just moved and I missed my peaceful 60 acres – even though it overlooked a nuclear power plant. The large canvas that came back was stunning. And even though it wasn't exactly perfect, it was.
Had I not learned to enhance my own photo, I probably couldn’t have afforded it.
Since then, I’ve had several canvases made, and learned through trial and error some of what works or doesn’t in a larger format. And the size of my operation doesn't grant me large discounts - most of my costs go toward printing. But I prefer a small operation and doing the enhancements myself, working personally with each customer. Your finished canvas would be a small part of my personal vision, mostly your own vision– just slightly
enhanced and a little bit more art than snapshot.
My goal is not a grand lifestyle. It’s to do what I enjoy, have enough money to offset my costs, pay my Dentist or buy the grandkids something nice.
And hopefully inspire the good feelings of seeing something special to you become a showpiece part of where you live, whether that place is in the eyes of a faithful companion, or in the center of a small garden you call home.
Even if it’s not far from a Nuclear Power Plant.
